SUNRISE (SUNRISE: Schools, University ‘N’ (and) Resources In the Sciences and Engineering) is a National Science Foundation funded GK-12 Graduate Fellows (M.S and Ph.D. students) project in the Volgenau School of Engineering at George Mason University, Fairfax, Virginia, USA. It is steered by Principal Investigators (Dr. Rajesh Ganesan) from the Department of Systems Engineering and Operations Research along with faculty from engineering, College of Sciences, and College of Education. The SUNRISE project is aimed at partnering STEM graduate students (Fellows) with school teachers from three different local school divisions. The main objective of the project is to build an unique model of collaboration among elementary and middle school STEM teachers, school division administration, and GMU to foster systemic efforts in implementing Information Technology rich STEM content-knowledge into Grade 4-6 education by Fellows, with the potential to fundamentally change the delivery of science instruction and long-term professional development of Fellows and teachers.
